“I wonder what they dreamt, today”
Those who fought for a freedom I enjoy, today
What ignited them into rebellion
My Stallions of war
I wonder what they dreamt, of today
My favourite dream is when I dream for community
About Community
To see, what in time unfolds to be
In time
To think for the future
My favourite dreams are when we dream in community
When my ancestors gather in film, to ripe a prototype
To create theatre of destiny
Relay moments of history
Muscle puzzle pieces of memory
Held in our matrimony
Of love,
Of healing,
Of teaching,
Of reeling,
My favourite dreams are when I dream encased love
Of communities rich in lands knowledge
Who seek counsel in mountains
And its hidden fountains
Of lands now dry,
In the winds the pungent aftertaste of massacre
Jilted to remembrance, my ancestors didn't want to die here.
My aunts and them didn't want to die here
How do we dream gathered in dust
Ashes to ashes, pummeled by the boulders in camps they seek refugee
from dawn to dusk their bones ground further
Airstrike setting fires ablaze where momma used to grow her maize
spreading from the house in the back into what used to be our background, backyard, back ground.
Lord have mercy on our souls
(an ode to toppled horses on their quest for freedom)
#free Congo, free Sudan, free Palestine
Questions to ponder:
What is the potential impact of community building in today’s world?
How might advancements in technology contribute to the prevention of wars or conflicts?
How can we foster a culture of justice in young people?
