Boatsful hope

Navigating the Depths of Hope Through Writing

30  sec read time

By Gogo Isolezwe (they/ them) | sangoma, gender anarchist, and pawerent queering life.

I thank god for writing

For the pages that find me alone and desolate

For the language that pieces me together on ocean shore

For the waves that collide in blue and emerald green,

calling me to the ancestral floor

For what if I step in, slid in, breathed in

The colony's afternoon delight

Would I hear the breaths of those who once were connected by blood

Connected by strife

Connected by slaves' foreign exchange

For what becomes of those who never get to see yonder concrete ground

And the sun sets still

All that ponders deep within.

I thank god for writing

For the pages that find me alone and desolate

With slow hope

That this ocean will reach the stars once again
